Shenandoah National Park
John had to play in the Charleston Symphony on Monday and we drove down to Winchester, VA to have a couple of repairs made to our trailer (the spare tire falling off in Canada being the biggest issue - that's a story by itself!). The factory is located there and they were great in fixing everything and even updating some things that went way beyond our expectations. Then we found a super campground in Luray, just outside Shenandoah National Park. This place overlooked the mountains and some peaceful farmland, very quiet.
This park is perfect for us. It has 500 miles of trails (100 miles of the Appalachian Trail goes through the park). All kinds of skill levels and lengths. This is very typical of where we were.
Many of the trails went along creeks and streams. This is Rose River Falls, about a 60 foot falls. Very few people on this trail. Perfect hiking weather in the mid 50's or around 60.

This was taken on another hike up by the Skyline Trail to Stony Man and Little Stony Man Peaks. Here is one of the views looking over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Ho, hum .... just another walk in the park on a beautiful fall day in Virginia.
And we also had a chance to drive down to Charlottesville to take a wonderful tour of Montecello, Thomas Jefferson's plantation. Another opportunity to gain some sense of the lifestyle from the late 1700's and early 1800's. Pictures really do not do this place justice.
So from here we are headed to Asheville, NC to visit the Biltmore Estate before going back to Georgia to visit with Cindy's family again. Check back to see some of those pictures........
